Patch Cables

Cat5e Cords, Made to a Standard You Can Check

Cat5e patch cable is the most commoditised product on the market, which is exactly why the manufacturing matters. Bare copper, gold-plated RJ45, consistent twist the length of the reel, and a Fluke result on the cord you actually receive.

  • Performance
    1000BASE-T

    100 MHz, gigabit to 100 m.

  • Assembled lengths
    0.2 m – 25 m

    Around nine colours for coding.

Cat5e patch cords are bought by the thousand and inspected by nobody. They arrive in a carton, get pulled into a patch field, and are never thought about again until a link starts flapping under load two years later. That is precisely why the difference between a manufactured cord and a traded one shows up here more than anywhere else in the range.

Wider Cable has made Ethernet cable since 2005, from bare copper through to the finished cord, across our facilities in Dongguan, China and Hưng Yên, Vietnam. On a product this commoditised, vertical control is not a marketing line — it is the only way to know what is inside the jacket.

What the standard gives you

Category 5e is specified to 100 MHz and supports 1000BASE-T to a full 100 m channel. It carries PoE and PoE+. For a fixed camera, a door controller, a desk phone, a till or a printer, that is the entire requirement, permanently.

Patch-field discipline pays for itself

Most of what makes a patch field maintainable has nothing to do with the category, and everything to do with how the cords were ordered:

  • Order to length, not to convenience. A 3 m cord doing a 0.5 m job is the single largest cause of unmanageable racks. Ordering a schedule of real lengths costs the same and saves hours per rack later.
  • Colour-code by function, not by whatever arrived. Around nine colours are available; deciding what each one means before the order is placed is free.
  • Match the boot to the panel. Snagless boots stop the clip shearing on removal; the boot profile decides whether a 48-port panel is workable at full density.
  • Label at manufacture. Printing and labelling applied in the factory survives; a marker pen applied on site does not.

We build all four of those into an OEM order at no extra process — it is simply how the run is set up.

Where these cords go

  • Camera, access-control and intercom drops in security installations.
  • Retail and hospitality estates with very high port counts.
  • Existing Cat5e plant being extended or refurbished, where matching the installed base matters.
  • Voice, signage and building-control systems with long service lives and fixed bandwidth.
  • Device bundling — cords packed with a shipped product, under the customer's brand.

Certification and testing

Every cord is Fluke-tested before it leaves. We hold UL, c(UL), ETL, CPR, RoHS, REACH, CE, SGS, ISO and TÜV across the range. Tell us at quotation which documents the project needs so they ship with the goods.

Common questions

Why buy Cat5e from a manufacturer rather than a trader?

Because on a commodity product the only real variables — conductor material, twist consistency and termination quality — are invisible in a carton and decisive on site. We can tell you what is inside ours because we made it.

Can you supply cords bundled with our own product?

Yes. Device-bundled cords with your branding, your packaging and your labelling are a standard OEM order.

Do you offer snagless boots?

Yes. Boot style, colour and profile are specified per order — tell us the panel density you are patching into.

Do you supply mixed-length schedules?

That is the normal order. Send quantities per length and colour and we build to the schedule.
