Every patch cord is a set of decisions someone already made for you. Buying custom simply means making them yourself. On an OEM order the list is longer than most buyers expect, and each item on it is a place where a generic cord quietly fails to fit the job.

Wider Cable has manufactured Ethernet cable since 2005 with raw-material-to-finished control across two facilities — Dongguan in Guangdong, China, and Hưng Yên in Vietnam. Because the cable, the termination, the printing and the packing all happen with us, a custom cord is a production setup rather than a chain of subcontractors.

What you can specify

Three ways buyers use this

Build to print. You have a specification or a drawing. We quote it, sample it, and produce it. If a line in the specification is going to cause a problem in manufacture or on site, we say so at quotation rather than after the first shipment.

Match an existing cord. You are buying something today that works, and you want it made better, cheaper, or from a second source. Send a sample. We reverse-engineer the construction, tell you what we can match exactly and what we would change, and quote on that basis.

Develop from a requirement. You know the environment and the performance you need but not the construction. That is a development project rather than an order — our custom cable service covers it from drawing through first article to production.

What makes a custom cord order go smoothly

• Send the schedule, not a total. Quantities per length and per colour are what set up a production run. "Five thousand cords" is not yet an order.
• State the panel and the density. Boot profile and cord diameter decide whether a 48-port panel is workable. Ultra-slim exists for exactly this.
• Decide the marking scheme early. Factory printing survives the life of the cord; anything applied on site does not.
• Name the certification you need up front. It is prepared with the shipment rather than chased afterwards.
• Say where the cable ends up. A cord for a plant floor, a data centre and a retail box are three different products even at the same category.

Certification and testing

Every cord is Fluke-tested before it ships. Across the range we hold UL, c(UL), ETL, CPR, RoHS, REACH, CE, SGS, ISO and TÜV, attached to the constructions that genuinely carry them. For EU projects, tell us the reaction-to-fire class the specification calls for.

Common questions

What is the minimum order for a custom cord?

It depends on the construction, the marking and the packaging — a colour change is not the same setup as a new jacket compound. Send the specification and quantity and we will give you a straight answer with the quote.

Can you produce under our brand?

Yes. Private label covers the cord, the printing, the packaging and the carton.

Can you match a competitor's cord exactly?

Send a sample. We will tell you what we can match, what we would change and why, rather than promise an exact copy before we have opened it.

How long does a custom order take?

It depends on construction, marking and volume. We commit to a schedule with the quotation, once the specification is fixed.
